Former capital of St Lucia during times of French rule, Soufrière
is situated on the southwest coast of the island.
This small fishing port is well known for the picturesque Gros
Piton and Petit Piton,
classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located south of the town,
they rise directly up from the coral reef beds and soar 2,000 feet
up from the sea.
Several sites can be visited near Soufrière : the Diamond Botanical
Gardens and its waterfall, briefly featured in the Superman II movie,
historic mineral baths, and also beaches Anse Chastanet to the north
and Malgretout to the south.
